Garmin Voice Editor - Edit VPM files for your GPS devices

Hello guys, using this tool, we can actually edit the voices in our Garmin GPS Devices.

Voice Editor v0.8 (Freeware)
Requirements: Garmin GPS capable of running .vpm voice files; Windows PC
Overview: this program will let you split a .vpm file into many .wav files, allowing for a later replacement of such files with your own .wavs, finally rejoining them into a new .vpm which you can upload to your device.
Tested WORKS: under Garmin Mobile XT, latest version (V5.00.60w). Should run with any Garmin Nuvi series, and devices capable of running .vpm files.

Important note: you may run into problems when choosing the recording settings. For instance, it is recommended that you choose this format: WAV (Microsoft 4 bit IMA ADPCM, quality: 89 kbps, 22050 Hz, mono, 16 bit), but in my experience, also PCM quality worked, with 352kbps, 22050hz, mono, 16bit).

navifirm - a tool to obtain nokia firmware, product codes, and more

NAVIFIRM is the ultimate all-purpose tool for downloading Nokia firmware images, obtaining lists of product codes, and finding the right product code for your phone. NAVIFIRM download this straight from Nokia's servers so you don't have to wait for people to post data packages and lists of product codes.

navifirm

NAVIFIRM is useful for just about anyone:

End users: Find product codes to use with NSS/NSU
Journalists: Be the first to know when new firmware hits NSU
Developers: Download ROM images for extracting files
Care Suite/Phoenix/box users: Download ROM images to flash
Additional NSU servers can be added by editing Main.cs in the source code.

To use NAVIFIRM, just start navifirm.exe and drill down from left to right. To download files, check the boxes of the files you want (or click the All button), then click "Download from FiRe". Find a directory to put the files in, then click OK. Care Suite and Phoenix should be able to pick up the firmware files if you put them in C:Program FilesCommon FilesNokiaDataPackage (if you use Vista w/ UAC, you'll have to right-click navifirm.exe and select Run as Administrator). Note that calibration and most other non-firmware files ordinarily included in data packages cannot be downloaded via this tool. To generate a product code list suitable for forum posts, etc., select a product and release, then click the Export PC List button. From there, you can copy and paste the list of product codes or save it as a file.

This software is released with no warranty whatsoever, express or implied. If you screw up your phone trying to flash something downloaded with this tool, it definitely isn't my fault. As bricking a phone is easy, proceed with great caution. You have been warned.

far away......

My Life

"Far Away"

This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, Too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

[CHORUS]
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore

On my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
Give anything but I won't give up
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

[CHORUS]

So far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know

I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go

miss the memories....

10 dirty little secrets you should know working in IT

If you are preparing for a career in IT or are new to IT, many of the “dirty little secrets” listed below may surprise you because we don’t usually talk about them out loud. If you are an IT veteran, you’ve probably encountered most of these issues and have a few of your own to add — and please, by all means, take a moment to add them to the discussion. Most of these secrets are aimed at network administrators, IT managers, and desktop support professionals. This list is not aimed at developers and programmers — they have their own set of additional dirty little secrets — but some of these will apply to them as well.

10.) The pay in IT is good compared to many other professions, but since they pay you well, they often think they own you
Although the pay for IT professionals is not as great as it was before the dot-com flameout and the IT backlash in 2001-2002, IT workers still make very good money compared to many other professions (at least the ones that require only an associate’s or bachelor’s degree). And there is every reason to believe that IT pros will continue to be in demand in the coming decades, as technology continues to play a growing role in business and society. However, because IT professionals can be so expensive, some companies treat IT pros like they own them. If you have to answer a tech call at 9:00 PM because someone is working late, you hear, “That’s just part of the job.” If you need to work six hours on a Saturday to deploy a software update to avoid downtime during business hours, you get, “There’s no comp time for that since you’re on salary. That’s why we pay you the big bucks!”

9.) It will be your fault when users make silly errors
Some users will angrily snap at you when they are frustrated. They will yell, “What’s wrong with this thing?” or “This computer is NOT working!” or (my personal favorite), “What did you do to the computers?” In fact, the problem is that they accidentally deleted the Internet Explorer icon from the desktop, or unplugged the mouse from the back of the computer with their foot, or spilled their coffee on the keyboard.

8.) You will go from goat to hero and back again multiple times within any given day
When you miraculously fix something that had been keeping multiple employees from being able to work for the past 10 minutes — and they don’t realize how simple the fix really was — you will become the hero of the moment and everyone’s favorite employee. But they will conveniently forget about your hero anointment a few hours later when they have trouble printing because of a network slowdown — you will be enemy No. 1 at that moment. But if you show users a handy little Microsoft Outlook trick before the end of the day, you’ll soon return to hero status.

Kamelot - The Haunting (Somewhere In Time)

Merely the sound of your voice
Made me believe that
that you were her
Just like the river disturbs
...my inner peace
Once I believed I could find
Just a trace of her beloved soul
Once I believed she was all
Then she smothered my beliefs

I was setting up samba to allow my shares available for windows users. However, i got frustated when if failed to start. I was wondering what could cause it since from previous 12.2 slack it was ok.

The error:

Compiz on Slackware 13.0

hmm... I did came through a lot of tutorial / references on this. It took quite some time to actually made it to work. I actually did numerous trial and errors to finally did it.

My hardware / software specs.

  • IBM Thinkpad R61i (Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo)
  • Intel 965 Chipset
  • Slackware 13.0 (Kernel 2.6.29.6)
  • GCC 4.3.3 and libs

Here is the task that I did to make it work. I'm using kde4, and i do not use the kde4 backend. Optionally you can download the kconfig4 / kconfig / gconf backend

  • Get and install the latest compiz releases from http://releases.compiz.org/0.8.2/. I'm installing from the source and did not encounter any problems during this task. There might be some dependency issues here, depending or your system. Just take care of it and proceed the next step.

For all of the plugins main / extra / unsupported, i've specified --prefix to prevent bcop error.  ./configure --prefix=/usr/local

Alternately you can just make a symlink to bcop.pc

ln -s /usr/local/share/pkgconfig/bcop.pc /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/bcop.pc

After installing the plugins, install libcompizconfig.
I create symlinks to the libs.

ln -s /usr/local/lib/libcompizconfig.so.0.0.0 /usr/lib/libcompizconfig.so.0
ln -s /usr/local/lib/libemeraldengine.so.0.0.0 /usr/lib/libemeraldengine.so.0
ln -s /usr/local/lib/libdecoration.so.0.0.0 /usr/lib/libdecoration.so.0

and created symlinks for the libcompizconfig-python

ln -s /usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/compizconfig* /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/
ln -s /usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/ccm/ /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/

and I also edited /etc/xorg.conf to use super key.
Option "XkbOptions" "altwin:super_win"
ccsm-0.8.2.tar.bz2
compiz-0.8.2.tar.bz2
compiz-bcop-0.8.2.tar.bz2
libcompizconfig-0.8.2.tar.bz2
compiz-plugins-main-0.8.2.tar.bz2
compiz-plugins-extra-0.8.2.tar.bz2
compiz-plugins-unsupported-0.8.2.tar.bz2
compizconfig-python-0.8.2.tar.bz2
simple-ccsm-0.8.2.tar.bz2
emerald-0.8.2.tar.bz2

  • Create a compiz launcher script (i created this in /usr/bin/kde4compiz)
  • Content of kde4compiz (I'm using emerald for the windows decoration)
          #!/bin/bash
     LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=True compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp --indirect-rendering &
     wait
     sleep 1
     emerald --replace &

  • chmod 644 /usr/bin/kde4compiz to make it executable
  • Create a compiz-kde-launcher script ( just link it )
    ln -s /usr/bin/kde4compiz /usr/local/bin/compiz-kde-launcher
  • In KDE4, Go to KMenu>System Settings>Default Applications>Window Manager
select "use a different window manager" and choose "Compiz custom"

  • At this point, you might not see any window decoration. To enable it,
    Under ccsm>Effects>Window Decoration>Command, put compiz-kde-launcher

If these fails, you can checkout these sites
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Compiz
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/down-and-dirty-compiz-howto.-600765/

Alternately you can use any of these methods to launch compiz from the console. Good luck compizing... hahaha

Upgraded to Slackware 13.0!

since its release a few days ago,  I upgraded my slackware from 12.2 to 13.0.

[ Official Announcement ]

Running on kernel 2.6.29.6, and was patched with Speakup to enable speech synthesizers.

Everything seems to be nice on my Thinkpad R61i.The X packages was reworked and i did zero config on X to make it work with my intel 965 chipset. The acpi component works as usual. Bundled with KDE 4.2.4, Firefox 3.5.2, Seamonkey 1.1.17, it should be more intuitive.

I've installed Compiz 0.8.2, and through a quite an adventurous voyage, I FINALLY get it to replace kwin.

refer to my compiz post

screenshots...

slack 13

I've also updated my pentest tools based on Backtrack 4 pentest.lzm. Got a few glitches and some new dependencies which needs to be resolved. Upgraded aircrack-ng to 1.0 rc4. The new airmon-ng will create another interface for Monitor mode, based on your chipset, which in my case is mon0, Intel 3945ABG chipset. Seems the injection and other functions work as expected. For information on how to crack WEP, refer to my simple wep cracking post.

Xine, now seems to be more stable, while amarok still reside under my low level of expectation.

Wine seems also been undergoing major improvements, as most of my standalone exes manage to run as expected.

These are the list that I've tested and running fine,

  • VMWare 6.5.3
  • Crossover Pro 1.7.0
  • WinRAR 3.9.0 (win32)
